This Chinese calligraphy is a remarkable gift of wealth. A stunning contribution from Beijing artist Jiang Chao, this piece is striking, elegant and exuberant. The characters read, "Ji Xiang Ru Yi" which translates literally into, "As prosperous as you wish." A prevalent saying in China, this calligraphy is traditionally used as a way to bring prosperity into the home.

Free and expressive, Jiang Chao's style is less prescribed than traditional. Here we are in the company of a dedicated and gifted calligrapher with deep roots in the Beijing art community. In this particular piece the message of prosperity is celebrated with powerful grace, evident most clearly in the ebb and surge of his brush stroke. Here Jiang Chao gives us characters of varying size, constructed with brush strokes of varying width.

With a confident and laconic evenhandedness his work is a study in artistic precision. Indeed this is a wonderful piece, and a stunning example of an artist using the running style to its most robust effect.

Description

The entire scroll that holds this calligraphy is approximately 5'4" long by 1'9" wide (162 cm by 53 cm). The calligraphy itself measures 2'6" long by 1'5" wide (69cm by 43cm). The calligraphy is painted on brown handmade paper and is enhanced by the beautiful blue and gold colored silk of its backing scroll. The combination makes for a remarkable look. There is also a decorative dowel on the bottom of the scroll and a string at the top for hanging.

This is a unique gift of wealth and prosperity. It would make a wonderful contribution to any home or office, especially that of a close friend or family member.
